Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, an emerging scholar from Sierra Leone, has been awarded The Zounon Victorine Award by the Global South Caucus for International Studies (GSCIS) 1. The award is an annual recognition bestowed by GSCIS to support the research endeavors of an African emerging scholar.
Abdulai, who is a faculty member at the University of Sierra Leone, expressed his happiness on Facebook, saying, “In the gloom of things, I am happy to share this small good news” 2. The International Studies Association (ISA) awarded him the prestigious award.
The Zounon Victorine Award is named after the late Victorine Zounon, a scholar from Benin who was known for her work on gender and international relations 1. The award aims to recognize and support the research of emerging scholars from the Global South.
Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai (PhD) is a Sierra Leonean attorney, human rights lawyer, publisher of Sierra Leone’s News Watch newspaper, a football enthusiast who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Luawa Academy, the largest football academy in the country with branches in Kailahun and across Freetown, a civil society practitioner promoting democracy as Director of the Society for Democratic Initiatives (SDI), activist, and one of the founders of the Renaissance Movement of Sierra Leone, a community made up of youth who are passionate about improving our country. He teaches law at the prestigious Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
