Dr. Imambay Kamara, a renowned community leader and international activist, has been honored with an invitation to attend a prestigious reception at St James’s Palace in London. Nominated by Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Dr. Morie Manyeh, and his deputy, Mrs. Yvonne King Ordigboh, Dr. Kamara attended  the event in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.

The reception, hosted by the King and Queen, is a significant prelude to CHOGM, which gathers leaders from across the Commonwealth to discuss pressing global issues. For Dr. Kamara, who is celebrated for her tireless advocacy for human rights, gender equality, and the rights of disabled persons, this invitation marks a profound recognition of her work on the international stage. She has also been a prominent campaigner against female genital mutilation (FGM), using her platform to inspire change and raise awareness on critical issues affecting women and marginalized communities.

Expressing her gratitude, Dr. Kamara said, “I am forever so grateful to God for everything. Thank you so much to the High Commissioner and his deputy for giving me this greatest opportunity.” The nomination underscores her role as a distinguished representative of Sierra Leone, bringing attention to the nation’s ongoing efforts in human rights advocacy and social justice.

Dr. Kamara’s presence at the royal reception not only highlights her individual achievements but also emphasizes the global importance of addressing equality, human rights, and social activism. As preparations for CHOGM 2024 continue, her participation signals the critical contributions of activists and community leaders in shaping discussions that aim to foster a more equitable world.
