In a community outreach event earlier today, the Deputy High Commissioner, Mrs. Yvonne King Odigboh, and staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission (SLHC) joined a large gathering of worshippers and well-wishers for Jumma prayers and the official opening of a new mosque at 170 New Cross, in the London Borough of Lewisham.

The occasion was significant event for the local Muslim community and visitors from across the UK and several European countries.

The event commenced with the obligatory Jumma prayers, drawing worshippers from across the borough and beyond. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual unity and reverence as participants engaged in the sacred rites, underscoring the importance of faith and community.

Following the prayers, attendees moved to the nearby All Saints Community Centre for a well-organized reception.

The Deputy High Commissioner and other dignitaries expressed their support and joy for the new Masjid. The Barakah Education and Cultural Association (BECA) Masjid is expected to serve as a hub for religious activities, education, and community gatherings, fostering inclusivity and mutual respect within Lewisham’s diverse population.

Community and religious leaders emphasised the Masjid’s role in promoting peace, understanding, and collaboration among different faiths and cultures. The event concluded with a palpable sense of accomplishment and optimism for the future.

The opening of the Masjid at 170 New Cross is a testament to the strength and unity of the Lewisham community, marking another brilliant chapter in its history of cultural and religious heritage.
