The directors behind the groundbreaking Sierra Leonean production Bormeh Series have opened up about the heart and soul behind the project ahead of the official premiering of Series on May 24, 2025, at the Freetown City Council Auditorium,
In a powerful joint statement, the two directors Idrissa Barry Jalloh and Cherno Kargbo shared their motivation and creative vision for the series:
“As filmmakers, our goal with Bormeh Series was to tell an authentic Sierra Leonean story that resonates universally. From the inception of this project, we were deeply committed to capturing the essence of Sierra Leone — its vibrant culture, its rich history, and the indomitable spirit of its people.”
This passion for authenticity is at the core of Bormeh Series, a bold and emotionally charged production set against the backdrop of the infamous Bormeh dumpsite in Freetown. The series dives deep into themes of power, secrecy, and resilience, using the story of the mysterious First Lady, Mrs. Antonia Wright, as a lens through which to explore the complexities of Sierra Leonean society.

Played by rising star Christiana Kamara, Mrs. Wright finds herself caught in a world of political intrigue and hidden truths, offering viewers a narrative that is as gripping as it is thought-provoking. For the directors, however, the story goes beyond politics or drama — it is a cultural mirror.
“We wanted to go beyond entertainment. We wanted to spark conversation, reflection, and pride. Every frame, every line of dialogue, every character — they all speak to who we are as a people, where we’ve been, and where we’re going.” Idrissa Barry Jalloh and Cherno Kargbo added.
The series features some of Sierra Leone’s finest talents, including Seray Timbo, John Yemi Ade-Coker, Nancy Kargbo, and Fatty Sheriff. Cinematography was handled by Idrissa Barry Jalloh and Sheriff Kabia, with Jalloh also serving as the film editor. Fantacee Wiz lends her powerful voice to the soundtrack, adding a rich, emotive layer to the viewing experience.
Ultimately, the directors hope Bormeh Series becomes more than just a show — they want it to stand as a cultural milestone.
“We’re telling our story, on our terms. And we hope the world is ready to listen.”
With a premiere just around the corner, Bormeh Series is already shaping up to be a landmark moment in Sierra Leone’s creative industry — one fueled by vision, purpose, and pride in telling a story that is unapologetically Sierra Leonean.
The production was led by Idrissa Barry Jalloh and Kadija Jalloh, and executive producers include Lead Executive Producer Dr. Isatu Kakay-Diallo (The Game Changer), Idrissa Barry Jalloh, KID-AFAN FILMS, and Sierraflixx Inc
Described as a cinematic milestone for Sierra Leone, Bormeh Series is being hailed as the country’s first-ever cinematic television series. A production of KID-AFAN FILMS and Sierraflixx Inc., the series is created and directed by Chernor Kargbo and Idrissa Barry Jalloh, with the screenplay written by Kargbo.
