Davido, one of Nigeria’s most bankable music exports, turned up at Secret Palace last night and made a promise that had the Nigerian internet buzzing before midnight he would fly Carter Efe and his entire team to the United States for their FIFA World Cup 2026 streaming tour.

The Afrobeats superstar showed up at Secret Palace and promised to put Carter Efe’s Afro World Cup Tour on the global stage continuing a bond that has already rewritten the Nigerian content creator’s career.

It was the latest chapter in one of Nigerian entertainment’s most talked-about friendships, and nobody who has followed the two men closely was particularly surprised.

Carter Efe whose full name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe had already announced his Afro World Cup Tour 2026, revealing plans to tour major American cities including Houston, Atlanta, New York, Dallas, and Los Angeles throughout June and July 2026, with Africa’s biggest stars and celebrities alongside him, promising fans a fusion of comedy, live music, and interactive streaming sessions during the tournament. With Davido now throwing his weight behind it, what was already a bold venture has just become something significantly larger.

The World Cup itself arrives as the biggest edition in the tournament’s history. The 2026 FIFA World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19, spread across the United States, Mexico and Canada, with 48 teams competing across 16 host cities and all 104 matches broadcasting live. The scale of the tournament means the scale of the audience is enormous, and Carter Efe, who built his name on meeting audiences in real time, is positioning himself directly in the middle of it.

What makes Davido’s appearance at Secret Palace more than a social media moment is the history behind it. The Afrobeats star has form when it comes to Carter Efe and the content creator would not be where he is today without it.

When Davido appeared on Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream, it was a turning point that changed the numbers overnight. Efe, who had around 322,000 followers before the stream, gained roughly 160,000 more in just four days and that single appearance helped him break the record for the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa, pulling around 83,000 viewers. He also became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on Twitch. During that session, Davido connected Efe with notable figures including his wife, nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest, and even called out Twitch CEO Dan Clancy before dialling Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for a live on-stream conversation.

Then came the endorsement. In a moment that became a viral talking point across Nigerian social media, Davido personally secured a Martell endorsement deal for Carter Efe during a live stream placing a direct call to Martell’s global marketing manager, who approved the deal on air.

The relationship between the two has been widely noted in Nigerian entertainment circles, with commentators pointing to Davido’s appearances and endorsements as a key factor in Carter Efe’s rise to become Africa’s biggest Twitch streamer contrasting it with how other superstars handle requests from emerging creators.

Carter Efe, for his part, has been publicly and repeatedly grateful. He has said plainly, on more than one livestream, that Davido changed the game for him.

Last night at Secret Palace, that generosity continued this time on a stage as large as the World Cup.

Davido himself already has history with the World Cup. He performed at the closing ceremony of the 2022 tournament in Qatar, becoming the first African artist ever to perform at a FIFA World Cup delivering the official anthem ‘Hayya Hayya (Better Together).’ The 2026 edition, hosted across North America, opens a new chapter for African representation in the tournament’s culture, and Carter Efe’s Afro World Cup Tour is a vivid expression of that.

When the first whistle blows in June, expect Carter Efe’s stream from American soil with Davido’s fingerprints on the ticket.
