Daniel Kaitibie officially began his tenure as the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) today, marking a significant milestone for the organization and the nation’s maritime sector.

Mr. Kaitibie’s appointment comes after the Parliament of Sierra Leone unanimously approved nine Presidential nominees on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, including Mr. Kaitibie. This approval followed the presentation of the eighteenth report by the Committee on Appointments and Public Service, highlighting a moment of progress and optimism for Sierra Leone’s governance.

The Committee on Appointments and Public Service, chaired by Honorable Mathew Sahr Nyuma, commenced its proceedings on Thursday, July 11, 2024. The sessions, attended by committee members from various political factions and districts, involved each nominee subscribing to an oath or affirmation as mandated by the 1991 Constitution. Nominees then presented their qualifications, vision, and plans for their respective roles.

Mr. Kaitibie, in particular, impressed the committee with his eloquent outline of his commitment to public service and his vision for transforming the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration. He emphasized his readiness to bring positive changes to the organization, enhancing its efficiency and impact on the maritime sector.

Honorable Mathew Sahr Nyuma and the committee members conducted rigorous questioning of the nominees, delving into their policy positions, past experiences, and capabilities to fulfill their roles. Topics ranged from economic policies and national strategies to proposed reforms, reflecting the committee’s diligence in ensuring only the most qualified individuals would assume these critical positions.

After thorough deliberations, Honorable Nyuma presented Mr. Kaitibie and the other nominees to the parliamentary plenary for approval. During the debate, members carefully considered each nominee’s qualifications, integrity, and alignment with national priorities.

In a decisive and unanimous vote, the Parliament of Sierra Leone approved Mr. Daniel Kaitibie and eight other Presidential nominees on July 16, 2024. This approval signifies a crucial step in strengthening the nation’s governance by appointing capable leaders to key administrative roles.

As Mr. Kaitibie begins his work at the SLMA, expectations are high for his leadership to bring about meaningful improvements in Sierra Leone’s maritime administration, contributing to the overall development and progress of the nation.
