Sierra Leone’s main referral hospital, Connaught Hospital, has been upgraded with major digital and energy infrastructure aimed at improving healthcare delivery, according to the Director of Communications at State House, Myk Berewa.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, Berewa announced that Connaught Hospital now operates a 24-hour CCTV surveillance system, with cameras installed across the facility to enhance security and monitoring.
He also revealed that the hospital has introduced Electronic Medical Records (EMR) linked directly to patients’ National Identification Numbers (NIN), a move expected to improve record management, patient tracking, and efficiency in service delivery.
In addition, the hospital is now powered by a standalone 1.2 megawatt solar mini-grid, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply around the clock. Officials say the development will significantly reduce power outages that have long affected medical services.
“These upgrades mark a major step forward in strengthening public healthcare infrastructure,” the statement noted, highlighting the government’s focus on technology, energy reliability, and improved patient care.
The developments at Connaught Hospital form part of broader reforms aimed at modernising Sierra Leone’s health sector and improving service delivery at key public institutions.
