Police have confirmed that a 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the death of Matron Catherine Valentina Kamanda, a senior nurse at Connaught Hospital and lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.

Initial reports had suggested that the respected medical professional was killed during a robbery attack. However, investigators now say the circumstances were different. According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Goodluck Nicol, who was adopted by the deceased, has confessed to the killing.

Authorities state that the teenager admitted striking Matron Kamanda on the head with a pestle during an altercation at her residence. She reportedly collapsed and was later confirmed dead.

The announcement is causing shockwaves throughout the medical community and beyond, as colleagues and students try to come to terms with their loss and that of a woman who has been widely characterized as having a commitment to public health and education.

Keeping in mind the young age of the suspect, thewhole issue is likely to be dealt with under the rules pertaining to juvenile offenders. The police have yet to reveal other details regarding the motive behind this crime.
