On Saturday, the Leone Stars, Sierra Leone’s national team, held their inaugural training session in preparation for their upcoming AFCON Qualifying match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The game is scheduled to take place later today at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia. Sierra Leone must secure a victory if they hope to remain in contention for a spot in the finals in Ivory Coast next year.
“We must win this match!
“I respect you and have confidence in you guys.
“On Sunday, please play for your country by winning the match,” Head Coach, John Keister urged the players after the training session.
Out of the 25 players on the Leone Stars team, 14 are home-based, while the remaining 11 are professionals, including captain Steven Caulker and Idris Kanu from Barnsley. Despite this mix, coach Keister emphasizes the importance of securing a win in their next game. Currently, group leaders Guinea-Bissau have 10 points, having recently defeated Sao Tome and Principe with a score of 1-0.
