Northwestern University, located in Evanston, Illinois, USA, is a respected private university known for its research and teaching. It was founded back in 1851 to cater to the former Northwest Territory. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the leading and oldest chartered universities in Illinois.

This accomplishment is not unique, as six Sierra Leoneans have now obtained their PhDs from Northwestern University.

The trailblazing Enid Forde was the first Sierra Leonean woman to graduate with a PhD from the university back in 1966. Cecil Magbaily Fyle also earned his PhD there in 1976, and the most recent addition to this esteemed list is Chernoh Alpha Bah in 2023.
