The All People’s Congress has formally cleared businessman and party member Mohamed Omodu Kamara popularly known as Jagaban, to contest for the party’s flagbearer position, bringing an end to weeks of speculation and internal debate over his eligibility.
The confirmation was announced by APC Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya, who said the party had completed a detailed verification of Kamara’s membership records. According to Dumbuya, Jagaban submitted documentation showing the date of his entry into the party, which was subsequently checked against the APC’s official database and found to be valid.
“After we verified the date through our system, we found it to be correct, and this allows him to move forward,” Dumbuya said, adding that the party’s current constitutional provisions support Kamara’s right to contest.
He explained that under the APC’s revised constitution and accompanying rules, Kamara meets the requirements to seek the party’s highest political ticket. While noting that future developments could still shape the wider process, Dumbuya stressed that, as things stand, both the verified membership date and the existing rules work in Kamara’s favor.
Eligibility in respect of Jagaban had become contentious both within and outside the APC. There were queries about the time he joined the party and the accuracy of the documentation about his status. The party’s announcement is intended to clarify these matters, as the process to choose the party’s flag bearer heats up.
The clearance has injected new energy into an already intensifying contest. Jagaban is a well-known figure whose entry has sparked lively debate among party faithful. Supporters believe he is a new breath of life with whom the APC can rekindle lost hopes of many of its supporters, who were disappointed by previous losses in elections. Detractors, on the other hand, question his timeliness, experience within party structures, and overall stature.
Even Jagaban himself has made his intentions clear. He says he wants to reposition the APC, strengthen its internal cohesion, and return it to power. That message has resonated with some grassroots members calling for new ideas and leadership styles, even as it unsettles others who fear that a crowded field of aspirants could deepen internal divisions.
A divided ruling party raises numerous questions about its future as the list of interested individuals inches closer. Whereas some believe that this will be an impetus for democracy within the APC, others feel that this might affect the unity that the party must exhibit for the national elections.
The APC has yet to publish an official timetable for its leadership congress, but interest is clearly building. With more aspirants expected to declare in the coming months, the flagbearer contest is shaping up to be one of the party’s most closely watched and potentially decisive internal battles in the lead-up to the twenty twenty-eight elections.

For now, however, it is noteworthy that the disqualification of Jagaban Kamara represents an important milestone. It ends one chapter of APC conflict, but it also inaugurates a further, truer one, in terms of which certain concepts, loyalties, and visions of leadership shall determine whom among these contenders, or others, shall bear the APC banner into the next configuration of national conflict.
