The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone has arrested three officials of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) who work in the ASYCUDA Department.
According to the ACC, the officials are in custody over allegations that they misused public funds estimated at three hundred billion old leones. The commission said the arrests followed ongoing investigations into how the money was handled.
The ACC has not yet released the names of the officials but confirmed that investigations are still in progress. The commission said the suspects will be questioned further as part of the process to establish the facts of the case.
In a related development, the ACC has also opened an investigation into the Immigration Department. The probe is focused on claims that diplomatic and service passports were issued to people who are not entitled to hold them.
The commission said issuing such passports to unauthorized persons is a serious matter because it can damage the country’s image and national security.
