Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Madam Fatima Maada Bio, has hosted the First Lady of the Gabonese Republic, Madam Zita Oligui Nguema, at a special dinner held at the Lagonda Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown.
The dinner was organised to welcome Madam Oligui Nguema to Sierra Leone on her second official visit to the country.
The event brought together distinguished guests from across Sierra Leone and celebrated the values of African sisterhood, friendship and unity that continue to strengthen relations between Sierra Leone and Gabon.
In a statement following the event, Madam Bio described it as a great honour to welcome the Gabonese First Lady, whom she referred to as her dear sister.
She also reflected on their recent engagements in Luanda, Angola, and highlighted the solidarity among African First Ladies in addressing challenges affecting women, girls and communities across the continent.
Madam Bio expressed appreciation to Madam Oligui Nguema for her continued support during her tenure as President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development, OAFLAD.
According to the First Lady, their joint efforts have helped to strengthen the organisation and advance initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women, girls and communities across Africa.
“Together, we have worked to strengthen our organisation and advance meaningful initiatives that improve the lives of women, girls and communities across our continent,” Madam Bio stated.
On behalf of President Dr Julius Maada Bio, the First Lady thanked the invited guests for attending the dinner and supporting the occasion.
She said their presence demonstrated Sierra Leone’s renowned hospitality and reaffirmed the longstanding friendship, mutual respect and cooperation between Sierra Leone and the Gabonese Republic.
The visit is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and social relations between the two countries, particularly in areas concerning women’s empowerment, development and regional cooperation.
