The Executive Director of ActionAid Sierra Leone, Alhaji Foday Bassie Swaray, has returned home after completing the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.

In a message shared by the organisation, staff welcomed his safe return and described the moment as one of joy and gratitude. The team said they were happy to see their leader back after fulfilling one of the most important religious duties in Islam.

Hajj is a sacred journey to Mecca in Saudi Arabia that Muslims are expected to perform at least once in their lifetime if they are able. It is seen as a time of deep prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal.

ActionAid Sierra Leone also offered prayers for Alhaji Swaray, asking God to accept his prayers during the pilgrimage and continue to guide his life and work. The organisation praised his leadership and expressed hope that his experience will bring renewed purpose and impact to his role.

Alhaji Swaray leads one of the country’s active civil society organisations, which focuses on fighting poverty, promoting human rights, and supporting vulnerable communities across Sierra Leone.

His return comes as many Sierra Leonean pilgrims continue to arrive home after this year’s Hajj, marking the end of the annual religious journey for Muslims around the world.
