A road accident left a pedestrian seriously injured in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a vehicle lost control at the intersection of Model and the road leading to Fourah Bay College in Freetown, striking both a man and a street light pole before the driver fled the scene.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:38 a.m., at a junction that serves as a key entry point to one of Sierra Leone’s most prominent academic institutions and sees heavy foot traffic from students, traders, and commuters during the morning rush.
The injured man, identified as Emmanuel Sattie, sustained what eyewitnesses described as serious injuries. He was transported to hospital by a police officer who responded to the scene. No fatalities have been reported at the time of publication.
According to multiple eyewitnesses at the scene, the vehicle appeared to lose control before ploughing into Sattie and colliding with a roadside street light pole. The driver did not remain at the scene, and authorities are yet to confirm whether an arrest has been made.
