The opposition All People’s Congress (APC) is preparing to hold its National Delegates Conference in August, where the party is expected to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
Sources within the party say the decision was taken over the weekend by the National Advisory Committee (NAC), following months of uncertainty about the timeline for the convention.
The conference, which will also see the election of national executive members, is expected to take place in Port Loko City. However, the exact date has not yet been announced.
Insiders say the delay is linked to unresolved issues from recently concluded lower-level party elections, which must be addressed before the final schedule is confirmed.
The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), which recently extended the tenure of the NAC by six months, is said to have approved the proposed August timeline for the conference.
Meanwhile, the race for the party’s flagbearer position is becoming more competitive, with the number of aspirants reportedly increasing. Efforts by some contenders to form alliances have so far not reduced the growing list of hopefuls.
