Suspected Gunman Targeted Trump at Correspondents’ Dinner

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has said the suspected gunman involved in the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting was allegedly targeting President Donald Trump and intended to assassinate him during the event.

According to live updates, officials believe the attacker’s motive was aimed at Trump, with Leavitt stating that the suspect’s intention was to carry out an assassination attempt during the high-profile dinner attended by the president, first lady Melania Trump, and other top officials.

The incident caused panic at the Washington Hilton hotel in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night as gunshots were fired near the venue’s security area. Trump and other guests were quickly evacuated by the Secret Service, while one law enforcement officer was injured but protected by a bulletproof vest.

Authorities say the suspect has been arrested and is now in custody as investigations continue into the motive and security breach.
