The Commissioner General of Sierra Leone’s National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, has joined global leaders in pushing for stronger and more effective tax systems.
She took part in high-level international discussions focused on improving how countries collect taxes and reduce dependence on foreign aid. The meetings brought together policymakers, tax experts, and development partners to share ideas on modern tax systems and sustainable revenue generation.
During the engagement, Mrs. Bangura highlighted Sierra Leone’s efforts to strengthen its domestic revenue system. She explained that the government is working to improve tax compliance, expand the tax base, and make the system more transparent and efficient.
She noted that building a strong tax system is key to supporting national development. According to her, countries must rely more on their own resources to fund services like education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The discussions also focused on global tax trends, including digital taxation, fair tax policies, and cooperation between countries to prevent tax evasion.
Mrs. Bangura reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to working with international partners to adopt best practices and strengthen revenue collection. She said collaboration is important to ensure that developing countries can build resilient economies.
Her participation reflects Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to improve its financial systems and move towards economic independence through stronger domestic revenue mobilisation.
