The Commissioner of Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Francis Ben Kaifala, has won three major awards at the National Professional Awards ceremony held on Saturday, January 17.
Mr. Kaifala, who has led the ACC since June 2018, was honoured for Outstanding Leadership and Professional Excellence. Winning three awards in one night is rare at the event and shows the impact of his work over the years.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Mr. Kaifala thanked the organisers and said the recognition motivates him to do more for the country. He quoted a Bible verse from Proverbs 22:29 about diligence and excellence, and said he remains committed to fighting corruption in Sierra Leone.
Since taking office, Francis Ben Kaifala has pushed strong reforms at the Anti-Corruption Commission. Under his leadership, the ACC has recorded a high conviction rate in corruption cases, with more than 90 percent of cases ending in convictions since 2018.
The commission has also recovered large sums of stolen public funds. Over the years, the ACC has recovered more than Le 34 billion, money that would have been lost to corruption.
The ACC under Kaifala has also improved Sierra Leone’s standing on several international anti-corruption rankings. These improvements have been linked to stronger investigations, faster court processes, and better public education on corruption.
Beyond this latest honour, Mr. Kaifala has received recognition outside Sierra Leone. He was recently named among the 100 Most Influential Young Africans of 2025 by the Pan African Youth Leadership Foundation. This recognition reflects his influence in the fight against corruption both at home and across the continent.
