President Julius Maada Bio has officially opened a new office of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) in Moyamba, describing the move as a major step towards improving service delivery for retirees.

In a statement shared on Tuesday, President Bio said the new office will help provide faster and more efficient services, especially for pensioners who previously had to travel long distances to access NASSIT services.

“This new office is a key part of our commitment to decentralisation,” the president said, adding that it will make it easier for retirees in Moyamba and surrounding areas to access their benefits without travelling to Freetown.

He noted that the opening of the Moyamba office aligns with the government’s broader plan to take essential public services closer to the people, particularly vulnerable groups such as retirees.

President Bio expressed optimism about the impact of the new facility, saying it marks progress in improving public service efficiency and enhancing the welfare of Sierra Leonean workers after retirement.

NASSIT officials at the event said the new office will support pension processing, benefit claims and customer service, while reducing congestion at offices in the capital.

The Moyamba office is part of ongoing efforts to expand NASSIT’s presence across the country as the government continues to push its decentralisation agenda.
