The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has begun organising technical committees as part of efforts to improve football administration and development across the country.

According to the SLFA, the move is aimed at strengthening key areas of the game, including competitions, refereeing, coaching, and grassroots football. Officials say the committees will provide technical guidance and professional input to help improve standards within the local football system.

The football body explained that the technical committees are expected to support policy implementation, ensure compliance with football regulations, and advise the SLFA executive on matters relating to the growth and organisation of the sport. The committees will also work closely with clubs, regional football bodies, and other stakeholders.

SLFA officials said football development requires strong structures and expertise, adding that the establishment of technical committees is an important step toward building a more organised and competitive football environment in Sierra Leone. They noted that similar systems are used by football associations across Africa and globally.

The committees are expected to include individuals with experience in football administration, coaching, refereeing, and player development. Their roles will include reviewing competitions, assessing technical needs, and recommending improvements to support both male and female football.

Football stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, saying it could help address long-standing challenges in the local game, including organisation, officiating, and youth development. Some analysts believe that effective technical oversight could improve the quality of domestic competitions and player progression.

The SLFA said the committees will operate in line with its statutes and international football standards. Officials also stressed the importance of transparency and professionalism in the selection and work of committee members.

Sierra Leone football has in recent years seen renewed focus on reform and development, with efforts aimed at rebuilding trust and improving performance at both club and national levels. The SLFA said the technical committees will play a key role in supporting these goals.

Further details on the composition and specific responsibilities of the committees are expected to be announced in due course.
