The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a network failure that has disrupted power supply across several communities in Freetown, just as residents prepare for the Christmas holidays.
In a public notice issued on December 24, 2025, EDSA confirmed that technical faults had affected electricity distribution in the Priscilla Street, Hennessey Street, and Morgan Lane areas.According to the authority, engineers have already traced the source of the problem and are working to restore supply as quickly as possible.
The outage has impacted a wide stretch of neighbourhoods. In the Priscilla Street axis, affected areas include Sander Street, Guy Street, John Street, parts of Robert Street, Cole Street, Naimbana Street, sections of Victoria Street, Edward Street, Adelaide Street, Kroo Town Road, Berwick Street, Lewis Street, Richard Street, Jones Street, and Upper West Brook Street. Communities along Rokel Upper Old Railway Line, Saja Town, Belgium off Sheriff Drive, Lumley Regent Road, and POW have also been affected.
Along Hennessey Street, the disruption covers Kingtom Bridge, the 7Up community, Accession Town, parts of Kroo Town Road, and Adelaide Street.Morgan Street and its surrounding areas, including Saint John, parts of Sander Street, Berwick Street, Dundas Street, Robert Street, Savage Street, and Victoria Street, are also without power. EDSA stated that repairs are expected to be completed by Friday, December 26, 2025. However, the authority said efforts are underway to provide temporary power to some of the affected communities in order to reduce the impact on Christmas celebrations. The power distributor acknowledged the inconvenience brought about by the incident. In their statement, EDSA apologized for the disruption of the electrical service to the communities. It assured the masses that the top priority is the restoration of electricity. For most families and small businesses that have already been dealing with the stress of the holiday season, having this disruption occur when it does has not helped matters. EDSA’s statement that work is underway is certainly a relief as the community waits for full restoration of power.
