The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone has handed over a consignment of food supplies to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), a move intended to support officer welfare as the force prepares for the high-pressure festive season.
The donation, delivered by Chargé d’Affaires Zhang Dianbin, includes 250 bags of rice (25kg each), 20 bags of sugar (50kg each), and 40 gallons of cooking oil.
This comes at a very critical time for the SLP. Indeed, the latter part of the year, especially around December, normally heralds the peak time for business activities, social events, and the return of expatriates, which demands intensified police presence.
In his remarks during the handing over ceremony, Zhang Dianbin conceptualized the donation as reflected in his statement below as far as China-Sierra Leone diplomatic ties are concerned:He noted that the embassy recognizes the strain placed on law enforcement during the holidays and aims to support the force’s operations during this busy period.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) John Martin Senessie received the items on behalf of the Inspector General of Police. He thanked the Chinese government for its consistent partnership, which often extends beyond infrastructure and technical training into welfare support.
AIG Senessie emphasized the direct link between officer care and operational results. “Welfare programs like this boost the morale and performance of officers,” he added, implying that logistical support for personnel is just as crucial as operational equipment in carrying out security during the peak season.

China remains a strong partner to Sierra Leone’s security, having previously supported the SLP with vehicles, various construction projects, and capacity-building training. This donation consolidates that cooperation at the welfare level as the police force gears up for December operations.
