The Komba Kamanda, Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, has arranged a capacity-building training programme for staff of the judiciary.

Four members of the judiciary are currently in Chengdu City, in China’s Sichuan Province, attending a three-week course on environmental governance. The training is being held at the Biogas Institute of China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

As part of their visit, the delegation will travel to Dali Province and Guangzhou City for site visits and knowledge exchange with local institutions.

The programme forms part of international cooperation between Sierra Leone and China under the Belt and Road Initiative. It is aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s institutional capacity in sustainable environmental management and eco-governance.

The participants are expected to gain hands-on experience in environmental protection, conservation, policy formulation, enforcement, and integrating renewable energy in both rural and urban settings.

Chief Justice Kamanda said that a well-trained and globally exposed judiciary is essential for delivering justice and supporting sustainable national development. He also thanked the Government of China, through its Ambassador in Freetown, for organising and sponsoring the training.
