Kelvin Doe, widely known as DJ Focus, is a remarkable engineer from Sierra Leone. His journey into engineering began at the age of 12, when he taught himself the intricacies of the field. Kelvin gained recognition by building his own radio station, where he plays music and broadcasts news under the moniker “DJ Focus.” As a finalist in GMin’s Innovate Salone idea competition, he impressed everyone by constructing a generator using scrap metals. His talent for repurposing discarded electronics led him to create transmitters, generators, and batteries.

Kelvin’s ingenuity earned him an invitation to the United States, where he became the youngest participant in MIT’s “Visiting Practitioner’s Program.” His achievements continued to grow as he delivered talks at TEDxTeen and lectured undergraduate engineering students at Harvard College. In May 2013, he secured a $100,000 solar project agreement with Canadian High-Speed Service Provider Sierra WiFi.
Throughout his journey, Kelvin has met influential leaders such as former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo. He has also inspired young people across Africa through various platforms. In 2016, Kelvin was honored as a board member of Emergency USA, an organization dedicated to providing free medical and surgical care to victims of war and poverty.
