Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Mr. Chernor Bah, has been invited to deliver a prestigious public lecture at the Hesburgh Auditorium of Notre Dame University on Tuesday, September 24th, as part of the university’s celebration of the International Day of Peace.

The event, organized by the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, will also see Mr. Bah honored with the Notre Dame 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to peace and civic education in Sierra Leone.

In his lecture, titled “Intentional National Consciousness as a Critical Tool for Long-Term Peacebuilding – A Sierra Leone Case Study,” Mr. Bah will explore the development of national identity as a vital foundation for sustainable peace. Drawing from Sierra Leone’s historical journey, he will address how colonial legacies contributed to fragmentation and instability and how fostering national consciousness can help overcome these challenges. His talk will also include examples from countries such as Rwanda, Germany, South Korea, Singapore, Sweden, and the United States, highlighting their success in uniting diverse populations to build lasting peace.

This lecture underscores Mr. Bah’s influential role in advocating for national dialogue, civic education reform, cultural revitalization, and youth engagement in Sierra Leone’s peacebuilding efforts. His recognition as a Distinguished Alumni further highlights his achievements on the international stage.

Stay tuned for this monumental moment in Sierra Leone’s ongoing journey toward peace and development.
