On Saturday, July 27, 2024, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu marked his second anniversary in office by launching the SLP’s “Kush Must Go” and “Non-Violence” campaigns at Fourah Bay College (FBC).
The initiative aims to address the growing concerns of drug abuse and violence among university students.
Hundreds of FBC students joined the IGP and senior police officers in a march from Dwazark Junction to the Ajayi Crowther Amphi-theater, raising awareness about the dangers of Kush and promoting a culture of peace on campus.
Fouad Kamara, Head of the Unite Hostel Residents Association and a final-year law student, highlighted the devastating impact of Kush on students’ lives. He shared alarming incidents of students attempting self-harm after consuming the drug and expressed concerns about the increasing violence on campus.
IGP Sellu emphasized the government’s commitment to combating the Kush menace and urged students to actively participate in the campaign. He extended an olive branch to student unions across the country, recognizing the widespread nature of the problem.
The IGP also pledged to improve the relationship between the police and students, fostering a collaborative approach to address security challenges on campus.
