Dear President Julius Maada Bio,

I trust this communication finds you in good health and prosperity. As a concerned citizen, I write to express profound apprehension regarding the persistent and severe electricity supply challenges pervasive in Sierra Leone. In this era, access to reliable electricity should be an innate entitlement for all citizens; nevertheless, countless individuals continue to contend with daily adversities due to inadequate power provision.

Electricity serves as the linchpin for contemporary advancement. It propels industries, facilitates educational institutions, upholds healthcare facilities, and is pivotal for the routine functioning of households. Regrettably, for many Sierra Leoneans, electricity is more of a luxury than a fundamental amenity. Frequent power disruptions and unreliable service have impeded progress across various sectors, encompassing education, healthcare, commerce, and industry.

Despite several initiatives and endeavors over the years, the electricity conundrum has exhibited minimal amelioration. The pledges of expanded power infrastructure and augmented generation capacity have failed to manifest into tangible advantages for the majority of the populace. This persistent challenge has not only stifled economic progression but has also undermined public confidence in the government’s capacity to dispense essential services.

I implore your administration to accord precedence to the following imperatives in addressing the electricity crisis:

1. Infrastructure Investment: Allocate substantial resources to revamp and broaden the national grid, entailing the upgrade of antiquated equipment and the expansion of transmission lines to underserved regions.

2. Diversification of Energy Sources: Investigate and invest in renewable energy resources, encompassing solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. These alternatives proffer sustainable solutions whilst reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels.

3. Augmentation of Policy and Regulation: Enact robust policies and regulatory frameworks that incentivize private sector investment in the energy domain. Coherent and transparent regulations will allure investors and instigate innovation.

4. Advancement of Energy Efficiency: Initiate nationwide campaigns to promulgate energy conservation and efficiency. Propagating public awareness concerning the significance of energy-saving protocols can significantly alleviate the strain on the national grid.

5. Reinforcement of Accountability and Transparency: Ensure efficacious and transparent utilization of funds allotted for electricity initiatives. Periodic audits and public progress reports can rekindle confidence and ensure accountability.

6. Engagement of Stakeholders: Foster collaboration among the government, private sector, and civil society organizations. Inclusive discourse and partnerships are pivotal in devising sustainable resolutions.

The people of Sierra Leone merit a dependable and efficacious electricity supply. We must undertake resolute and decisive measures to resolve this quandary. By confronting the electricity predicaments forthrightly, we can unlock our nation’s full potential and elevate the standard of living for all citizens.

I am confident that under your stewardship, we can make momentous strides towards a more illuminated and electrified Sierra Leone.

I extend my gratitude for your attention to this pressing matter.

Yours sincerely,
S.A. Wahid.
