Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), is planning to hold an emergency National Delegates’ Conference (NDC) next month to discuss some of the party’s current and upcoming political activities and to decide on Dr. Samura Kamara’s official mandate following the end of his term. The announcement was made by a senior official of the APC. The date and venue for the upcoming NDC are yet to be communicated, as the previous one was held in Makeni and was attended by about 1,600 delegates across the country.

According to the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Sidie Yayah Tunis, the holding of the forthcoming NDC is in line with the party’s new 2022 constitution which stipulates that a NDC should be held for the party’s National Advisory Council (NAC) to elect executive officers whose positions have become vacant and to decide whether or not the party should extend the mandate of the party leader.

The party will disclose the names and positions of national officers who were elected at the past APC NDC held in Makeni, but have since died or traveled abroad, and whose positions remain vacant. This will allow interested party members to announce their intention to vie and contest for vacant positions at the upcoming NDC. The secretariats and national executive of the party are currently putting strategies in place to raise the requisite funds to organize the pending NDC.

The NAC was supposed to meet before now, but the meeting was postponed due to the current state of security in the country and also the ongoing political stalemate.
