Sierra Leone and the European Union (EU) recently concluded their annual Political Dialogue, which was chaired by President Julius Maada Bio. The dialogue focused on various topics of mutual interest, including the economic situation in Sierra Leone and the conditions for creating a favorable business environment. Representatives from Team Europe and European private sector companies operating in Sierra Leone engaged in fruitful discussions with President Bio.
The dialogue also addressed the support of Team Europe to Sierra Leonean initiatives for the country’s development. The ongoing cooperation between Team Europe and Sierra Leone will contribute to the implementation of the government’s “Big 5” Priority National Development Agenda, with a focus on food security, green economy, human capital development, and governance.
Both sides emphasized their commitment to a rules-based world order within the framework of the United Nations, highlighting the importance of multilateralism. The Government of Sierra Leone provided an update on its priorities for its upcoming non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for 2024-2025.
Both the government and the EU reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the partnership between Sierra Leone and the European Union. They pledged to continue holding regular political dialogues on issues of common interest and to follow up on the conclusions and agreements reached during these dialogues.
The Sierra Leonean delegation, led by President Bio, included several key members of the government, such as Vice President Dr. Juldeh Jalloh, Chief Minister Dr. David Monina Sengeh, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Timothy Kabbah. The European Union was represented by the Ambassador of the European Union to Sierra Leone, H.E. Manuel Müller, along with ambassadors from Germany, Ireland, France, Denmark, and Italy. European companies were also represented at the dialogue.
The Political Dialogue between Sierra Leone and the European Union demonstrated a shared commitment to strengthening their partnership and working together to promote economic development and good governance in Sierra Leone.
