The Patriots Against Corruption SL Launches National Peace Conference and Awards in Freetown

The Patriots Against Corruption (PAC) SL, a prominent civil society organization, launched the National Peace Conference And Awards Ceremony on last Friday with the theme “Taking Responsibility To Prevent Violence in Sierra Leone.” The event was held at the Africell American Corner in Freetown, brought together government officials, civil society actors, students, state actors, community leaders, and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for promoting peace and combating corruption in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone, like many other countries in the region, has been plagued by political instability, conflict, and corruption over the years. The country has made significant strides towards peace and stability since the end of the civil war in 2002, but the recent increase in political tensions and violence have raised concerns about the potential for a return to conflict.

The Patriots Against Corruption SL, which has been at the forefront of the fight against corruption and the promotion of good governance in Sierra Leone, officially launched the National Peace Conference And Awards Ceremony to raise awareness about the dangers of violence and corruption and to recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions towards promoting peace and accountability.

The event featured a range of presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions on topics such as conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and anti-corruption initiatives. Participants shared their experiences, insights, and recommendations for promoting a peaceful and corruption-free Sierra Leone.

People of high caliber were in attendance and shared insight, information and advice to the general populace.

Umaru Fofanah who was the Keynote Speaker commended the undiluted efforts of the Patriots Against Corruption SL for such a significant strides. He underscored the importance of effective leadership, strong institutions and a culture of transparency and accountability in promoting peace and development.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Priscilia Conteh stressed the need for collective action to address the challenges facing the country. She emphasized that “preventing violence and corruption is not a sole responsibility of the government, but a collective responsibility of every Sierra Leonean”.

The Patriots Against Corruption SL pledged to continue its efforts in mobilizing Sierra Leoneans to work together towards a peaceful and prosperous future for the country.

Festus is also a perpetual volunteer in life-changing causes and has shown great commitment and dedication to being a catalyst and solution to the challenges faced by young people like himself. Festus currently serves as the Secretary General of the Africa Youth Leaders movement which is a network of youth between the ages of 20 – 30 years who have shown achievement, leadership potential and commitment to make a difference. Festus is also the Africa Focal Point of Youth for Change Initiative, which is a platform through which young people can access resources, be empowered and given the opportunity to grow to become useful members of society who will participate in the development of their communities and nation. Along with another Africa Youth platform, Festus has Co-Founded the Future of Africa initiative which is an advocate forum with the aim to bring together local and international socio-economic stakeholders to support innovative programs aimed at advancing the radical and practical progress of adoption awareness-vulnerable children and youth and youth leadership-through interlinking local, regional and international resources and opportunities.
