Musa Tombo effect – The excitement and anticipation of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in Freetown, Sierra Leone, could be felt throughout the city. And no one was more excited than the students of Municipal Secondary School.

As the Leone Star squad trained on the pitch, a group of school kids gathered outside the gates, hoping to catch a glimpse of their heroes. Among them was Musa Tombo, a forward for both the national team and Bo Rangers.

To the delight of the children, Musa took notice of their presence and stepped off the field to greet them. The students beamed as they lined up to shake hands with the player, one after the other.

For these kids, meeting their favorite football star was a dream come true. Football is more than just a sport in Sierra Leone – it’s a way of life. The national team represents hope and unity in a country that has faced its fair share of challenges.

The gesture from Musa meant more than just a simple handshake. It was a sign of encouragement and inspiration for these young students, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Seeing a local hero like Musa, who had also faced his own obstacles to achieve success, gave them a sense of hope and motivation to pursue their own dreams.

It’s moments like these that showcase the power of sports in bringing people together and inspiring positive change. Musa Tombo and the Leone Star squad may be gearing up for an important match, but their impact goes beyond the pitch. They are role models for the next generation of Sierra Leoneans, showing them that anything is possible with hard work, dedication, and a little bit of luck.

As the school kids walked away from the pitch, still beaming with joy from their encounter, it was clear that this handshake meant more than just a fleeting moment. It was a memory that they would cherish for years to come, and a reminder of the potential that lies within each and every one of them.
