After more than a decade and 23 attempts, Ghanaian accountant Jefferson Aryettey has successfully obtained the level of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Speaking to his story, Aryettey recalled how difficult the journey was, and commented on how he overcame the hardship to reach his long-term goal.
Explaining the struggle he faced, Aryettey reminisced, “Six years, 23 exams sittings and 13 passes later, to God be the glory, I DID IT! What a journey it has been! After 23 collective attempts, I finally passed every level of the ACCA charter!!! What a humbling experience. I began my ACCA journey in level 100 at the University of Ghana and I aspired to attain ACCA destination by the end of my final year. Boy I was wrong, failure after failure, and I also struggled financially, I would query myself about whether this ‘Pro Accountant thing’ was for me or if I was worth it because it seemed outright impossible.”
But, Aryettey was able to prevail, adding, “Today, I am a proud member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.” He used his story to urge those who might be considering giving up on their ACCA journey, saying, “I know someone out there reading this is ready to give up on their ACCA journey, but I am here to encourage you that as long as you stay in that ring and fight, no matter the number of rounds, that title will be won. Painful victory tastes sweetest.”
