Awele Ideal is a Nigerian lawyer and child rights activist. She is the Principal Partner of Ideal Chambers, a law firm in Asaba, Nigeria.
After receiving an LLB from Delta State University and an LLM from the University of Benin, she was called to the Bar in 2011. However, she did not have it easy becoming who she is now. She experienced an unpleasant childhood but that did not deter her from achieving her dreams.
Black Wall Street Media (BWSM) shared the story of Awele Ideal. She was abandoned by her mother when she was only seven months old and left in the care of her father and his wife (her stepmother).

According to Awele, her stepmother was “mean and not so nice to me”. “I endured all manner of maltreatments she meted at me. Sometimes I went hungry for days. She would so starve me that I would be seeing death,” she stated.
The highlight of one of these hunger streaks was the day Awele had to eat the dog’s leftover.
“Our neighbour’s son caught me eating the dog’s leftover food and he told his mother who later that evening invited me to her house and asked me if what her son said was true. I was so terrified that I begged her not to tell my stepmother, because she will kill me if she knew that I ate the dog’s leftover instead of throwing it away. The woman wept and promised to give me food every day without my stepmother’s knowledge, a promise she kept till we left the compound,” she said.
Other inhumane treatments Awele received include being tied and left in the bathroom for days, as well as having her eyes, neck, armpits and nether regions peppered.

But one thing that gave Awele hope was education and her academic brilliance. She persevered and continued her education until she achieved her dream of becoming a lawyer who advocates for the rights of children.
“Despite all these experiences, I was very bright academically and was loved and favoured by God and people. I knew that the only way to escape was to achieve educational success, so I never joked with schooling,” she stated.
