Shomy Hasan Chowdhury becomes the first Bangladeshi judge of Diana Legacy Awards

Forbes 30 under 30 honouree Shomy Hasan Chowdhury will be the first Bangladeshi citizen to sit in the judging panel for the 2021 Diana Legacy Award. The committee, presided by Lord Spencer, brother of Princess Diana, includes Alex Cruz, Former Chairman and CEO of British Airways, Sean Doyle, Chief Executive and Chairman of British Airways, and Joe Garner, Chief Executive of Nationwide Building Society.

The award celebrates the achievements of 20 outstanding young leaders, visionaries and role models who have demonstrated their ability to inspire and mobilise new generations to serve their communities, as Diana, Princess of Wales did herself. The Legacy Award Ceremony will be hosted by Lord Spencer at Althorp House in December 2021. It is regarded as the most prestigious accolade a young person can receive for their social action or humanitarian work.

Shomy is a WASH activist who received the Diana Legacy Award in the United Kingdom, in 2019. As part of the experience, she was invited to Kensington Palace to meet with His Royal Highness, Prince William. She also served as a judge of the 2020 Diana Award.

Shomy is the co-founder of Awareness 360, a global platform that empowers the youth to build rina service projects in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. She is also one of the Samsung Generation 17 leaders.

Shomy received a direct invitation from Diana Legacy Awards based on her judging skills and overall understanding of youth issues. “Being a recipient of this life-changing award, it feels fulfilling to be on the other side of the table and be a direct part of the process to select the next legacy recipients. I am looking forward to celebrating them in December,” she shared.
